We are thrilled to announce the date for our 2023 annual Faraday Show: Sunday December 3rd, in-person, at the UBC Vancouver campus HEBB Theatre.

Our students have started planning their demonstrations, and we’re in a flurry of building, visualizing, creating and making physics happen again in the most exciting ways possible, to give you the best show you’ve ever seen!

WHERE: HEBB Theatre 2045 East Mall, UBC Vancouver campus. The North Parkade is the closest parking lot to the HEBB building.

WHEN: SUNDAY, December 3rd, 2023

  • Pre-Show (table top demonstrations): 1:15PM – 1:55PM
  • Stage Show (stage presentations): 2:00PM – 3:00PM

COST: FREE! We ask that you please bring non-perishable food items to support Greater Vancouver Food Bank member, The Kettle Society. No RSVP required, though we recommend arriving 15-20 minutes earlier for good seats.

The Faraday Show is UBC’s annual science lecture, designed for children and presented by UBC Physics & Astronomy students, faculty and staff. This year we are exploring the wonders of space! How do rockets get into orbit? How big are our planets? How explosive is compressed air? Can you make a crater? What do black holes eat? All these questions and more will be answered through fun demos and hands-on activities.

All are welcome!

The Faraday Show is UBC’s annual science lecture, designed for children and presented by UBC Physics & Astronomy students, faculty and staff. This year’s theme will feature the physics of water and transportation through wet, splashy, icy, bubbly and pressure conditions! Why do some things float on water and other things sink? How do we propel ships and why do they sometimes crash? Why do submarines have to be super strong?! We will explore these questions and more through demonstrations and hands-on activities.
