2024 CAMPS Update: High School students! We are now accepting volunteer applications until May 31st, 2024. We have two Camp Volunteer interview options for all volunteer candidates: on Friday June 7th from 5pm-6:30pm and on Tuesday June 11th from 5pm-6:30pm. Interviews are on UBC campus. Please be available for one interview date. The mandatory training day for selected volunteers will be on Friday June 28th from 10am – 2pm on UBC campus. We will email all candidates with details for interviews. We look forward to meeting you!

About the Phenomenal Physics Summer Camp:
The Phenomenal Physics Summer Camp is an annual summer camp program run by UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy on UBC campus. Camp participants engage in fun scientific activities designed to encourage thinking and experimenting. In the past, they have experimented with electricity, designed hovercrafts, constructed Martian habitats, conducted chemistry experiments and played with tornado tubes and musical instruments. Our goal is to stimulate the minds of these young scientists, and inspire them to explore science further in the future.
Job description:
Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one week of volunteering for our summer camp program (Volunteer hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm). All volunteers are required to attend a training day prior to volunteering. Volunteers will be supervised by the summer camp teachers and camp leaders (UBC undergraduate students). Volunteer responsibilities include:
- assisting camp teachers and camp leaders in running camp activities
- setting up before activities and cleaning up after activities
- interacting with and supervising campers
- helping maintain a safe and positive camp environment at all times
Why is this experience good for you?
As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work with teachers, UBC students, and professors in the UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy. You will also gain valuable experience working with a group of kids. By being involved, you will spend time at UBC and visit university laboratories and facilities. This is also a great place to earn volunteer or career preparation hours. Last but not least, you will receive a free summer camp T-shirt!
Eligibility:
We accept applications from students who are currently completing grades 10-12. Suitable candidates will be invited to attend an interview on campus.
Qualities we look for:
We are looking for volunteers who…
- enjoy working with kids (experience working with kids is an asset – make sure to mention any experience working with kids in your resume)
- are interested in science and engineering
- are independent and reliable but also able to work as part of a team
- are not afraid to work in a pool during the swimming sessions (ability to swim is an asset, but NOT a requirement as we will be spending our time in the shallow end)
